Mac Jones Reportedly Being Considered As Pro Bowl Alternate

Mac Jones was so good in his first season with the New England Patriots that he may earn a spot in the Pro Bowl. The first rounder won’t join the AFC roster for the annual NFL all-star game. Rookies don’t really get a chance to play the big game. However, Mike Reiss from ESPN reported that Jones may be an alternate in the game. This would definitely be a compliment for the rookie quarterback.

“With the AFC dipping into alternates at QB,” Reiss reported on Twitter, “momentum is building for Mac Jones to play in the Pro Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 6. … Stay tuned.”

Mac Jones to join the Pro Bowl for a reason

Head coach Bill Belichick selected Jones with the 15th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Belichick watched him during the Pro Day and the Alabama prospect sure got his attention. The Patriots were in a desperate need for a good quarterback. Tom Brady left the team to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Belichick got Cam Newton as a replacement, but this experiment didn’t work. Jones beat the 2015 NFL MVP in the quarterback run. He led the team to a seven-game winning streak. That’s what makes him the perfect candidate for the Pro Bowl.

Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, and Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens earned their spots in this year’s Pro Bowl. Mahomes may not be able to take part in the game if his team makes the Super Bowl, because players have the Pro Bowl before the big game.

Josh Allen from the Buffalo Bills is the first alternate. However, he wants to “allow his body to rest and recover from the harshness of the season.” In other words, he won’t play in the Pro Bowl.

NFL analysts expect Joe Burrow to take his spot. Jones would come right after him. Derek Carr from the Las Vegas Raiders is another brilliant option. He ranks fifth in completion rate and passing yards, and Burrow is the leader in completion percentage and yards per attempt.
