Patriots Veteran Makes Case For ‘Fair’ Contract Relying ‘On The Film’

Jerod Mayo’s hiring marked the beginning of a new era in New England. The new Patriots head coach promised to make big changes at the sideline. Although Mayo kept some of Bill Belichick’s veterans on the roster, he did rely his game plan on “young bulls.” Some of the former Patriots veterans remained in the organization as part of the coaching staff. Veteran Davon Godchaux has yet to sign a contract with the Patriots, and he seems to be a little frustrated with the whole situation.

Godchaux encouraged the Patriots to “turn on the film” and give him the contract he deserves. According to him, that would be the best thing to do right now. The veteran wants a fair treatment and won’t settle down for anything less than that.

“Hopefully we can get something done that’s fair to me and my team before camp starts!” Godchaux responded to comments made by Dan Kelley from PatsFootballNow. “I love NE, I would love to retire here but it’s has to make sense for us! What I do on the football field in the trenches most of time doesn’t show on the stat sheet but turn on the film you will see it if ‘U know’ ball!’ Would love to finish my career here in NE but it has to make sense to me and my team!”

Patriots should consider offering the veteran a good contract

Godchaux doesn’t have an elite role with the Patriots, but his performance had a huge impact on their game. Taylor Kyles from Patriots on CLNS reminded fans that Godchaux actually embraced a key role with the run defense in 2023. The Patriots allowed 3.3 yards per carry and Godchaux did his best to keep the defense at an optimal level.

Mayo likes Godchaux and everything he brings to the field. Let’s see if he keeps him around for another season.

“We want him here. He’s one of our best players. He’s working. Been here every single day working.”
