Anthony Davis Drops Hints On Coach JJ Redick’s Lakers Plans

The Los Angeles Lakers fired Darvin Ham after the postseason. The front office took some time and did some negotiations before hiring JJ Redick. Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka was looking for someone who can bond with players and Redick fits the description. Dan Hurley was the first choice for the team, but he turned down the offer. Redick will now get to work with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It’s a big challenge for Redick as he has zero experience as an NBA head coach. Is he fit for the task?

Davis has great experience from the new Lakers head coach. The big man didn’t share too many details of Redick’s game plan, but he sure knows that his approach will be different.

“[Redick] talked about me being the hub of the offense,” Anthony Davis said during a media appearance at Team USA training camp. “That will be different. We won’t know everything until [training] camp when we’re able to get on the floor.

“We want LeBron to shoot more threes. [Redick] wants to play fast and defend. From what he was telling me, I’m in total agreeance with what he has planned for us. … The goal at the end of the day is still to win a championship. You can’t skip steps.”

Redick wants Davis to embrace a new role in the future

LeBron and Davis had leading roles with the Lakers. It seems like Davis will take on the offensive side of the ball. This was the initial plan and Redick will get to make it work.

LeBron signed a two-year deal with the Lakers this offseason, meaning he won’t go anywhere in the next couple of years. However, he will have to retire at some point. The Lakers need someone to inherit the throne and AD will embrace this role after LeBron retires.
