Lakers Teammates ‘Very Frustrated’ About ‘Star Treatment’ Bronny James Receives

Bronny James was given an opportunity to show his skills during the 2024 NBA Summer League, but some of his Los Angeles Lakers teammates weren’t too happy about the treatment he received.

In the first four games, LeBron James’ oldest son averaged 4.3 points on 22.6% shooting from the field. He went 0-for-15 from long range and yes, this wasn’t his best outing. However, the 55th overall pick received a star treatment.

“The attention he attracted was ‘very frustrating’ for the players to see, and his alleged star treatment caused friction among the team, which went 0-5 to start the tournament, per a Lakers insider,” The Sun reported.

Bronny shared the floor with talented prospects and the best picks in the draft. “That kind of tension didn’t help the group of players to build chemistry,” an anonymous source told The Sun. No one has anything against Bronny, but players complain about unequal treatment.

“And you could feel that there was no unity [between] this group of guys as Bronny was the main guy and the others didn’t feel that it was right, that he deserved that,” the Lakers insider told The Sun.

Bronny has to bond with his Lakers teammates

Bronny got off to a slow start, but he looked good in the final two games. The ‘young king’ scored 25 points and 3 assists while shooting 10-of-21 shooting. He also went 3-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick will have to spend a good portion with young talents in order to help them fit better in the NBA. Bronny received a lot of reps so he could develop into the two-way player he is expected to become. It’s interesting to note that Bronny averaged 25.1 minutes per game, which was the second most behind Dalton Knecht.

“I mean, he was treated as someone apart, not like all of us, and that is very annoying as we didn’t feel any chemistry in this group of players,” an anonymous Lakers player told The Sun.

“I ended up being very frustrated because I was never put in the best situation, or even put in some plays or game plans because they wanted Bronny to show his skills and shine. If you talk to any other player that was part of the roster of the California Classic and the Summer League, most of them would tell you the same thing,” the Lakers Summer League player said, according to The Sun.
