Patriots Open Roster Spot By Cutting Long-Shot Defender

The New England Patriots have made a lot of changes in the last few days and experts have noticed that they have cut at least one defender.

Depth cornerback Kaleb Ford-Dement was one of the few players who missed Friday’s training camp practice. According to several sources, the Patriots had released the undrafted free agent. The Patriots had added him in May, but Ford-Dement didn’t really have a chance to earn a spot on the 53-man roster.

New England could’ve kept him on the practice unit, put the 178-pounder will have to start the new season somewhere else.

The Patriots have an open spot on the roster now. Their cornerback unit is represented by Christian Gonzales, Jonathan Jones, and Marcus Jones. These three have secured their roster spots, leaving little room for Alex Austin, Shaun Wade, Marcellas Dial Jr., and Isaiah Bolden.

Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf have to fill two roster spots at this point.

The talented defender left Patriots after second training camp practice

The Patriots entered the third training camp practice with a plan. There’s a strong competition at both offensive tackle spots. Chukwuma Okorafor was given first-team left tackle reps in the first two days of training camp. Okorafor joined forces with left guard Sidy Sow, center David Andrews, and right guard Mike Onwenu. Mayo approved rotations at right tackle, but the left tackle remained untouched.

Mayo said that the best five will play. He has yet to make a decision on each unit. We can’t get into who is stepping out as guard or tackle. Mayo and his assistants will observe players during training camp and pick the best options for the upcoming season. One thing stands for sure. The best five will get key roles.

The Patriots made more changes on Day 3. Let’s see what happens on Day 4.
