Lakers Future First Round Draft Picks Named ‘Best Trade Assets’ In NBA

The Los Angeles Lakers will have to plan their future. Their game plan revolves around LeBron James and Anthony Davis right now, but these two won’t play on the team forever. LeBron will have to retire at some point, leaving Davis alone in the leadership position. Davis will have to join forces with another superstar. Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka has to acquire another star player and give LeBron and AD an opportunity to create a Big 3. According to NBA experts, the Lakers have a few trade assets they should consider using.

Lakers to use their trade assets and solve roster issues in the long run

The Lakers have shown interest in multiple players. Some of their trade targets have signed a deal with other teams. Dan Favale from Bleacher Report says Lakers draft picks are some of the best trade assets in the NBA right now. Analysts insist that the Lakers 2029 and 2031 picks could be lottery picks one day.

“Timelines change fast in the NBA. That five- to seven-year window could represent three or more different iterations of the Lakers. And the more they turn things over, the more likely one of those selections becomes a high lottery pick. Joining these first-rounders together fuels their top-five ranking,” Favale wrote on July 30. “The Lakers are not the Clippers or Suns, with just one distant pick and little else to offer. They have swaps (2026, 2028, 2030), Austin Reaves and rookie Dalton Knecht to include in packages.

“Truth be told, there’s probably more of an argument to nudge these picks up a notch or two. But while the landscape of the NBA and player movement has changed, the prospect of the Lakers stumbling into good fortune because of their location and flagship status remains intact. Potential trade partners must consider the odds of a player forcing his way to Hollywood in a way they don’t have to when contemplating the value of other teams’ future first-rounders.”

The Lakers front office should use these picks to get a longterm solution. Trading first-rounders for an efficient player is always a good option.
