Patriots ‘Dodged A Bullet’ By Rejecting Trade Offer

The New England Patriots showed interest in San Francisco 49ers Brandon Aiyuk, but the talented wide receiver turned down the trade offer.

Former NFL offensive lineman Ross Tucker believes that this is an ideal scenario for the Patriots. According to him, “the Patriots dodged a bullet. Reportedly, they pulled out of this thing. I don’t know why these teams want to give up draft picks to pay Brandon Aiyuk $30-plus million a year.”

Tucker made a few reasonable remarks on the “Ross Tucker Football Podcast.” He added that “there have been so many good receivers coming through the draft the last couple years.” There’s more. New England should be patient and select another receiver “in the first round next year. I don’t give up draft picks to pay Brandon Aiyuk a ton of money.” His argument makes sense on so many levels.

Patriots to move on with young receivers after making a trade offer for Aiyuk

Tucker’s scenario will work if the 2025 receiving class offers great talent. One thing stands for sure though. The Patriots shouldn’t even think of spending a lot of money to get Aiyuk. They already have some great options on the roster.

Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker showed great potential in training camp. NFL analysts have even compared Baker to Randy Moss. Baker embraced his role on the practice field, becoming a great target in the red zone.

Polk was also great in training camp. He and Baker have created a great duo and the Patriots could benefit from their greatness. Adam Schefter from ESPN also reported that the Patriots seem to be really excited about the young wide receivers on their roster. Head coach Jerod Mayo and his assistants will spend a great portion of their practice to find the best role for younger players. Let’s not forget that Mayo has already warned veterans about the dominance “young bulls” showed on the field.
